The meeting program covers all transportation modes, with sessions and workshops addressing topics of interest to policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions.

TRB’s volunteer technical committees organize the sessions and workshops at the Annual Meeting. They also hold committee meetings throughout the week of the meeting, and most of them are open to the public. With more than 170 committees, almost every transportation mode and topic is represented
Special Events
Chair’s Plenary Session
Wednesday, January 10, 2024, 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM
The program for the Chair’s Plenary Session is hosted by 2023 Executive Committee Chair Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti and includes the introduction of new Executive Committee members and officers; recognition of special guest; and the presentation of TRB’s most prestigious awards. The event will also include a fireside chat on the issue of mental wellness of transportation construction workers.

Thomas B. Deen Distinguished Lectureship
Monday, January 8, 2024, 6:00 PM –7:30 PM
Dr. Susan Handy, Distinguished Professor of Environmental Science and Policy and Director of the National Center for Sustainable Transportation at University of California, Davis (UC Davis) is the 2024 recipient of the Thomas B. Deen Distinguished Lectureship. Dr. Handy, also chair of UC Davis’s graduate program in Transportation Technology and Policy, is recognized for her contributions to the advancement of knowledge on travel behavior, as well as to the practice of transportation planning and education. Dr. Handy will deliver her lecture Shifting Gears: Reflections on the Role of Researchers in Shaping the Ideas that Shape Transportation.

Sunday, January 7, 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM
Get tips on navigating the Annual Meeting and making the most of your time during the week. Learn about the value of continued participation through TRB technical committees. Understand the available tools, resources, programs, and extensive research capabilities available to transportation professionals through TRB. The session includes a networking segment to introduce you to the committee leadership in your area of interest—a first step in your journey to establishing lifelong professional networks through TRB.
Exhibit Hall Opening Reception
Sunday, January 7, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Visit the nearly 200 exhibits, showcasing a wide range of transportation-related products and services. While there, stop by the TRB booths to learn about TRB programs and resources. This popular reception includes light hors d’oeuvres and cash bars.
