TRB Webinar: Analyzing Corridors and Systems with the Highway Capacity Manual

Procedures about highway capacity are ever changing. Therefore, TRB will host a webinar on Tuesday, March 25, 2021 from 2:00-3:30 PM Eastern that will describe new methods developed for the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) that evaluate spillback for freeways and urban streets. Presenters will present the proposed new HCM chapter and will provide case studies to illustrate the new methods.

This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Highway Capacity and Quality of Service. It also refers to NCHRP Web-Only Document 290: Highway Capacity Manual Methodologies for Corridors Involving Freeways and Surface Streets.

The first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

1. Quantify the impacts of spillback and travel time
2. Utilize the HCM tools for evaluating congestion at the system level

Professional Development Hour Information

Professional engineers (PEs) who register and attend the entire webinar as an individual will be awarded 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs). TRB’s webinar program awards PDH credits only to the registered individual, and not to other members of a group that view the webinar together. To be eligible for the credits, individuals must remain signed in for the entire webinar, including for any question and answer session following the presentations.
