Workshop on Research Needed to Support Vehicle-Infrastructure Cooperation
Embassy Suites Hotel - Troy
Troy, Michigan
July 20-21, 2004
Workshop Purpose: Bring research and broad transportation stakeholder interests to the table; develop and explore research questions that are important to support development and deployment of vehicle-infrastructure cooperation, e.g., VII.
Workshop Objective: Identify basic components and priorities for a 5 to 10-year program of research that will support the implementation of a cooperative vehicle-infrastructure1 environment in the U.S. and to Produce a Research Action Plan for Vehicle-Infrastructure Cooperation.
Workshop Process: We will start with panel discussions to provide the perspectives of experts from a variety of stakeholder backgrounds, then spend most of the time in breakout group discussions. Throughout, we will aim to place the research in an operational context, based on vehicle-infrastructure cooperation services and real-world deployment considerations.
1Note an important definition: "infrastructure" not only includes publicly-owned facilities and their operation but privately operated landside operations as well, e.g., telematics, infotainment, traffic services, probe processing, and potentially ACN handling.
Note: There are two additional events scheduled immediately following the TRB Workshop:
-
A one-day focused workshop entitled Truck Automation: Opportunities & Deployment Paths to be held on Thursday, July 22 immediately following the TRB Workshop. This Workshop is being sponsored by the International Task Force on Vehicle-Highway Automation (this Task Force in not affiliated with TRB). A separate registration fee is required to attend this Workshop.
-
A one-and-a-half-day workshop on the ITS America's ATCE Map Database Visionary Requirements Development to be held Thursday, July 22 through Noon, Friday, July 23. A separate registration fee is also required to attend this meeting.
* Due to the format of this Workshop, attendance will be limited to 75 attendees.
