Getting Involved with SHRP 2
Expert Task Groups
Expert task groups (ETGs) write requests for proposals, review the proposals received, and make selection recommendations to the SHRP 2 Oversight Committee. Under the current research plan, SHRP 2 will release 15 additional RFPs as shown in the chart, and each will need an ETG. This is an expected opportunity for at least 150 volunteer experts to serve on SHRP 2 ETGs.

To serve on an ETG for a March RFP, SHRP 2 must receive the nomination by the middle of the previous December, and to serve on an ETG for a July RFP, the nomination must be received by the middle of the previous May. ETG members typically serve for less than one year, and attend two meetings in Washington, D.C. Details about the nomination process and serving on a SHRP 2 ETG are made available when announcements for nominations are released.
Technical Coordinating Committees and the Oversight Committee
SHRP 2 does not plan to replace any members of the focus area TCCs or the Oversight Committee before the program concludes, but in the event of unexpected changes, new members will be needed.
Other Opportunities
In addition to serving on an ETG, there are opportunities to participate in demonstration projects and surveys for the SHRP 2 program, and the program has a Safety Symposium every summer. Further opportunities will arise as SHRP 2 research moves into the implementation phase. For example, some research projects may develop products that would require participants for beta testing before the product is ready for implementation.
How to Get Involved
Solicitations for expert task group nominations and invitations to participate in SHRP 2 research are posted on the News page of the SHRP 2 website: www.TRB.org/SHRP2. Please visit often.
