The webinar will highlight sessions conducted at the 9th National Conference on Asset Management, which took place on April 16-18, 2012, in San Diego, California. The webinar will be appropriate for anyone who did not attend the “Focus on Implementation” sessions at the conference. Attendees will learn about organizational structures and practices that help support data-driven and performance-based asset-management programs within transportation organizations.

Fred Judson and John Puente, Ohio Department of Transportation
Asset Management Implementations within the Ohio Department of Transportation (DOT)
Mr. Judson and Mr. Puente will discuss innovative equipment, software, and technology tools used to collect and analyze asset information in support of Ohio DOT’s asset management program, focusing on Districts 1 and 2. Tools discussed will include unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), GPS, GIS, and mobile computing devices.
Shobna Varma, StarIsis Corporation
Implementing Performance-based Asset Management – The North Carolina Journey
Ms. Varma will discuss the successes, challenges, and lessons learned by the North Carolina DOT in its performance-based asset management journey. She will share the story of moving from a prescriptive-based business model to an outcome-based business model.
Stephen Gaj, Federal Highway Administration
Implementation of a Risk-Based Asset Management Program
Mr. Gaj will explore ways to implement a risk-based asset management approach to optimize an organization’s return-on-investment decisions.
Katie Zimmerman, Applied Pavement Technology, Inc.
Building a Sustainable Asset Management Program
During the summer of 2011, a U.S. delegation conducted a scan tour of agencies in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. This presentation will introduce the concepts of asset value and depreciation, and how these metrics can be used to support a long-term financially-sustainable asset-investment strategy.
