TRB Volunteer Profile: Kay Fitzpatrick
Dr. Kay Fitzpatrick, senior research engineer at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI), is a featured volunteer in the November-December 2016 edition of the
TR News. She is an internationally recognized expert in roadway geometric design, and specializes in roadway safety, traffic control devices, and the design and operation of pedestrian facilities. Dr. Fitzpatrick developed design criteria for high-speed roads, which resulted in a new chapter of the Texas Department of Transportation’s Roadway Design Manual.
With TRB, Dr. Fitzpatrick serves as the Committee Communications Coordinator for the Standing Committee on Operational Effects of Geometrics. She has also contributed to the Transportation Research Record and NCHRP reports. Additionally, Dr. Fitzpatrick has developed implementation of the pedestrian hybrid beacon, which is jointly sponsored by the Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP), the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), and the Federal Highway Administration.
