TRB Volunteer Profile: Anand J. Puppala
Anand J. Puppala, professor at the University of Texas (UT) at Arlington, is a featured volunteer in the
TR News. Dr. Puppala is also the director of the Sustainable and Resilient Civil Infrastructure Center at UT Arlington, where his research focuses on improving the design and construction of resilient transportation infrastructure in complex hazardous environments.
Another area of research for Dr. Puppala is the design of dams, levees, and embankments in challenging seismic and nonseismic environments. He directed a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) research project that implemented this research, in which the earth beneath roadways and bridges was bolstered with giant, lightweight geofoam blocks to prevent settling. Two additional TxDOT projects that Dr. Puppala has been leading focus on using drones in infrastructure condition monitoring and winter maintenance.
At TRB, Dr. Puppala has written articles for TR News and chairs the Geotechnical Engineering Section. He has also served on the planning committees for the 10th and 11th International Conferences on Low Volume Roads.
The TR News is a bimonthly publication of TRB that features articles on innovative and timely research and development activities in all modes of transportation.
