NHTSA: Collecting vehicle crash data
A manual that provides guidance for coding data elements is described in the
2018 FARS/CRSS Coding and Validation Manual, a report from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The manual explores data at the crash level, vehicle level, driver level, precrash level, and person level. The Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and Crash Report Sampling System (CRSS) are used to collect motor vehicle crash data from across the United States.
