The Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences (DEPS) and the Transportation Research Board (TRB) have released a report that explores technologies that could lower the fuel use of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, and examines recommended approaches the federal government could take to regulate these vehicles’ fuel consumption. DEPS, like TRB, is a division of the National Academies, which include the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council.
