2013 TRB 92nd Annual Meeting: Your Source for Professional Development Hour Credits
October 17, 2012
Nationally recognized Professional Development Hours (PDHs) may be claimed for attending the TRB 92nd Annual Meeting, January 13-17, 2013, in Washington D.C. Each hour of participation earns one (1) PDH; attendees must maintain their own records of attendance. TRB will confirm an individual’s registration at the request of the licensing or certifying agency. A credit statement form for PDHs will be provided in the Annual Meeting Final Program. Note that, at this time, neither TRB nor the 2013 Annual Meeting is certified with the New York or Florida state licensing boards. TRB will continue to work with state boards to become an approved provider of their continuing education credits.

TRB Outstanding Young Member Award
October 22, 2012
TRB’s Young Members Council is accepting nominations for a new Outstanding Young Member Award. This award recognizes exceptional young member service to TRB and achievements in transportation research, policy, or practice. Nomination packages are due by November 16, 2012. The award will be presented annually at the TRB Annual Meeting to a TRB volunteer who is 35 years of age or younger on April 15 in the year of the award. The inaugural award will be presented on January 14, 2013, as part of the Thomas B. Deen Distinguished Lecture and Presentation of Outstanding Paper Awards during TRB’s 92nd Annual Meeting, January 13-17, 2013. The award will consist of a plaque and a $2,500 cash award funded by Stantec, Inc.

2013 Transportation Finance and Mileage-Based User Fees Symposium*

TRB is cosponsoring the 2013 Transportation Finance and Mileage-Based User Fees Symposium on April 14-16, 2013, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The symposium will explore the latest studies and pilots in mileage based user fees and the diverse range of financing tools available to toll agencies, state departments of transportation, and local governments.

TRB Webinar: Portland Limestone Cement (PLC) - A Technology to Improve the Sustainability of Concrete Pavements

TRB will conduct a webinar on October 30, 2012, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. ET that will examine the history and development of Portland-Limestone Cement (PLC) in North America. Participants must register in advance of the webinar, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees. A certificate for 2 Professional Development Hours (PDH) will be provided to attendees who register and attend the webinar as an individual. This webinar will summarize the lessons and experiences of practitioners using Portland-Limestone Cement (PLC). Presenters will discuss PLC performance, specifications, and the sustainable benefits of PLC in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Presentations will feature field projects in Utah, Colorado, and Canada that explore the applications and performance of PLC. In addition, the fresh, hardened, and durability properties of PLC will be discussed.

TRB Webinar: Quieter Pavements: Measurements and Applications

TRB will conduct a webinar on October 31, 2012, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. ET that will explore pavement measurement standards and how these standards have been used to both identify and optimize quieter pavements nationwide. Participants must register in advance of the webinar, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees. A certificate for 2 Professional Development Hours (PDH) will be provided to attendees who register and attend the webinar as an individual. This webinar complements a TRB webinar previously conducted on the Principles and Practices of Quieter Pavements, held on August 24, 2011, and is organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Transportation-Related Noise and Vibration (ADC40).

TRB Webinar: Airport Governance and Ownership
October 22, 2012
TRB will conduct a webinar on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, from 12:00 PM ET to 1:30 PM ET that will feature research conducted by TRB’s Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) on approaches to airport privatization, airport ownership and governance, and state-specific airport legislation to help airports operate in an efficient, competitive, and financially viable way. There is no fee to register for this webinar, participants must register in advance, and 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for Accredited Airport Executives (A.A.E.) who attend this webinar. This webinar is pending approval by the American Institute of Certified Planners for 1.5 Certification Maintenance Credits.
Sheri Ernico, LeighFisher, will discuss how airport practitioners can apply the findings in ACRP Report 66: Considering and Evaluating Airport Privatization to their home airport. She will share ideas for how airport operators, policy makers, and others can analyze the potential advantages and disadvantages of implementing various approaches to airport privatization.
Daniel Reimer of Kaplan Kirsch & Rockwell LLP will share results from Legal Research Digest 7: Airport Governance and Ownership on the issue of airport ownership and governance. Daniel will explore determinants of airport ownership and governance; advantages and disadvantages of various airport governance structures ; and case studies of airports transferred from one form of governance to another.
Jodi Howick of Durham, Jones & Pinegar will share the results from Legal Research Digest 15: Compilation of State Airport Authorizing Legislation. She will explore state-specific airport legislation, including laws establishing, developing, operating, expanding, and funding airports. The compilation focuses on legislation expressly applicable to public airports rather than legislation applicable to local governments.

Presentations from the Better Safety Results Through Information Sharing: A Workshop held on July 12-13, 2012, in Irvine, California, are available. The workshop was designed to explore data for decision-making activities within transportation safety and identify opportunities for collaboration that could result in reduced duplication of effort, cost savings, and improved information access for safety researchers and practitioners. Workshop participants learned about current information sharing initiatives, and explored strategies for improved collaboration.

RFP: Proposed LRFD Bridge Design Specifications for Light Rail Transit Loads
October 17, 2012
TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has issued a request for proposals to develop proposed American Association of State Transportation Officials Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) Bridge Design Specifications for bridges carrying only light rail transit vehicles and bridges carrying both light rail transit vehicles and regular highway traffic. Proposals are due December 4, 2012.

RFP: Assessing, Coding, and Marking of Highway Structures in Emergency Situations
October 17, 2012
TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has issued a request for proposals to develop a process to assess, code, and mark highway structures in the event of emergencies resulting from natural or man-made disasters. The project will also develop training and implementation material on the processes developed. Proposals are due December 4, 2012.
