Improving Traffic Safety through Better Snow Fences: Image-Based Methods to Measure Trapped Snow Volume and the Snow Relocation Coefficient
The Institute for Transportation at Iowa State University has released a report that examines three critical aspects of snow fence design: estimation of the snowfall, snow drift fluxes, and mapping of the snow volumes accumulated at the snow fence. Blowing and drifting snow is a major concern with regards to safety, efficiency, and road maintenance, and a common way to mitigate snow drift is to install snow fences.
