TRB Webinar: Concrete Overlays of Asphalt

Concrete overlays of asphalt (COA) pavements are a widely accepted rehabilitation strategy used to extend the life of asphalt pavements. However, there are still design and construction challenges, and COA features often differ between states. TRB will host a webinar on Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 2:00-3:30 PM Eastern that will provide an overview of recently completed COA research and field implementations. Presenters will identify research from Accelerated Pavement Testing and long-term performance studies. They will also discuss case studies to highlight essential factors for states looking to implement or improve upon this strategy.

This webinar is sponsored by the TRB Standing Committee on Pavement Structural Testing and Evaluation.

Some registrants will need to pay $95 to attend this webinar. Sign into MyTRB.org to view registration information.

Webinar agenda and presenters

  1. Overview of COA: Julie Vandenbossche, University of Pittsburgh
  2. Research and Implementation of COA in California: Angel Mateos, University of California, Berkeley
  3. Research and Implementation of COA in Louisiana: Moinul Mahdi, Louisiana State University
  4. Research and Implementation of COA in Minnesota: Tom Burnham, Minnesota Department of Transportation
  5. Key takeaways: Julie Vandenbossche, University of Pittsburgh
  6. Question and answer session: Julie Vandenbossche, University of Pittsburgh

The first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify factors important to the selection, design, and construction of COAs
  2. Discuss recent advancements in COAs
  3. Discuss state experiences with COAs

Professional Development Hour Information

Professional engineers (PEs) who register and attend the entire webinar as an individual will be awarded 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs). TRB’s webinar program awards PDH credits only to the registered individual, and not to other members of a group that view the webinar together. To be eligible for the credits, individuals must remain signed in for the entire webinar, including for any question and answer session following the presentations.

Please check with your licensing board to ensure that TRB webinar PDHs are approved by your board.

TRB will report credits earned to the Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP). Complaints about registered providers may be sent to RCEP, 1015 15th Street, NW, 8th Floor, Washington, D.C., 20005.
