Presentations from the 2nd International Symposium on Non-Destructive Testing for Design Evaluation and Construction Inspection
The 2nd International Symposium on Non-Destructive Testing for Design Evaluation and Construction Inspection was held on April 25, 2008 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, during the second European Road Transport Research Arena (TRA’08). This was the second symposium organized in collaboration with the Forum of European National Highway Research Laboratories (FEHRL).
In January, the 1st International Symposium on Non-Destructive Testing for Design Evaluation and Construction Inspection was conducted in Washington, DC, to disseminate the preliminary research plan and to gather feedback for the researchers to use in finalizing the plan. The 2nd symposium was intended to disseminate the final research plan and to solicit feedback and suggestions on the development of follow-on projects in accordance with the plan. Experts from five European laboratories and staff and contractors from SHRP 2 Project R06 presented their current work in the area of NDT.
The presentations can be viewed by clicking the presentation title below.
Mr. Hans Ertman Larsen, Chairman FEHRL Research Coordinators, welcomed the attendees and summarized the intent of the symposium. Following, Mr. Randell Iwasaki, Chairman of the SHRP 2 Renewal Technical Coordinating Committee, welcomed the attendees and presenters and thanked them for their participation. Mr. Neil Hawks, Director of SHRP2, concluded the opening remarks explaining the intent of the symposium.
The first session of the symposium included presentations from FEHRL and five of its laboratory members. Mr. Larsen presented a general background and objectives of the research programs at FEHRL.
Following, Mr. Stefan Deix (Austria) presented an
Overview of NDT Research at Arsenal.
Dr. Angel Mateos of CEDEX (Spain) presented on
NDT for Accelerated Pavement Testing.
Dr. Shane Donohue of UCD Dublin (Ireland) presented a summary on
Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves: Applications and Developments.
Dr. Odile Abraham presented an
overview of NDT Research at LCPC (LCPC, 58, bd Lefebvre, 75732 Paris cedex 15, France).
The last presentation from FEHRL members was a summary of the
research experience at the Transport Research Laboratory (UK) relevant to SHRP 2 Project R06 from Dr. Brian Ferne.
Dr. Monica Starnes, SHRP 2 senior program officer charged with the NDT research track and Dr. Andrew Wimsatt, Principal Investigator for Project R06, provided an overview of the ongoing project and the
recommendations for future SHRP 2 research projects on NDT.
