What Is TCRP?

What is the Century Club?

The Century Club allows individuals to contribute $100 to $10,000 to support TRB’s Centennial Celebration.

Why contribute to the Century Club?

Your Century Club contribution will help promote the value of transportation research and TRB’s critical role in the process.

In addition, your contribution will support activities that will take place during the yearlong celebration that will:

• Recognize and honor volunteers, sponsors, major contributors, and staff;
• Highlight TRB’s accomplishments and its sponsors’ roles in those accomplishments;
• Celebrate and promote the TRB community; and
• Elicit pride in TRB participation.

Your contribution will help TRB celebrate innovations in our nation’s transportation infrastructure developed through rigorous research that produced tangible results. Based on the work of thousands of volunteers, TRB delivers an extensive research program; convenes leaders, practitioners, and academics from around the world; and provides timely policy advice on issues facing the transportation community.

Components of the celebration will explore TRB’s impact on development of transportation professionals and on its impact on innovation and practice across all modes. In addition, the celebration will examine the impact TRB has made to transportation.

TRB’s mission—to promote innovation and progress in transportation through research—is as pertinent today as it was in 1920. By contributing to the Century Club you will be expressing your support for TRB’s continuing value and the need to seek and share knowledge that helps tackle the toughest transportation challenges—those we face today, and those will likely face tomorrow.

What is planned for TRB Centennial Celebration?

The TRB Centennial Task Force, created in February 2017, has established the goals and theme of the celebration and developed a visual identifier to draw attention to items associated with the celebration. The Task Force also established a plan that includes a core set of activities and products being developed as part of the celebration.

The plan supports a yearlong celebration that will begin at the 99th Annual Meeting in 2020 and conclude at the 100th Annual Meeting in 2021. The focus of the 2020 Annual Meeting will be on TRB’s history, and the focus of the 2021 meeting will be on the future. The date of TRB’s anniversary is November 11, 2020.

Components of the celebration include a website, brochure, videos, centennial booths at both the 2020 and 2021 Annual Meetings, and a roaming exhibit. One of the highest profile and, perhaps, the longest lasting legacies of the celebration will be a book on TRB’s first 100 years.

The book is being authored by Sarah Jo Peterson, a professional historian, with a Ph.D. in history from Yale University and a master’s of science degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Wisconsin. Distribution of the book will take place during the January 2020 Annual Meeting which is expected to attract more than 13,000 transportation professionals from around the world. Organizations that become Century Patrons before September 30, 2019, will have their logos enshrined in the publication.

A detailed version of the plan, as well as a summary of the various components of the plan are available online.
