Review of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration’s Oversight of the Suspected Unapproved Parts Program
The U.S. Department of Transportation Office of the Inspector General has released a report that assesses the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s ability to monitor aircraft parts that may have been manufactured without FAA approval or intentionally misrepresented, also known as suspected unapproved parts (SUPs). The report assesses the effectiveness of the FAA’s process for monitoring and investigating SUPs and its oversight of industry actions to remove unapproved parts from the aviation supply chain.
