TRB Volunteer Profile: George Avery Grimes
George Avery Grimes, senior adviser to the CEO of Patriot Rail, is a featured volunteer in
TR News. Dr. Grimes has more than 40 years of experience in the rail industry, where his accomplishments include acquiring railroads and rail-related facilities, integrating strategic business issues, and managing corporate transformations and major projects. At Patriot Rail, he has guided efforts to redevelop and professionalize the company’s business practices and policies, from marketing to operations, and securing interest from a infrastructure investment firm.
He also served as the Lender's Technical Adviser to help secure private investment for Denver's Eagle P3 commuter rail system; as an organizer of the Joint Rail Conference on High-Speed and Intercity Passenger Rail; as Deputy CEO at Metrolink; and as an adviser for rail engineering PhD candidates. He continues to serve as chair of Union Pacific’s Shortline Advisory Group and as a member of BNSF’s Shortline Caucus.
At TRB, Dr. Grimes chairs the rail group, and has reshaped its direction and mission statement.
