Surface Chloride Levels in Colorado Structural Concrete
The Colorado Department of Transportation has released a report that analyzes the surface chloride concentration levels of concrete bridge decks throughout Colorado. In North America, ice and snow on bridges and roads are controlled using deicing salts. The application of deicing salts has been increasing significantly in recent years. The most commonly used deicers are chloride based, which can result in damage of the concrete bridge decks. This report focuses on chloride-induced corrosion of reinforcing steel in structural concrete.
