TRB Volunteer Profile: Dr. Lily Elefteriadou
Dr. Lily Elefteriadou, director of the University of Florida (UF) Transportation Institute, is a featured volunteer in the
TR News. Dr. Elefteriadou is also the Barbara Goldsby Professor of Civil Engineering at UF, where her research focuses on traffic operations, traffic flow theory, and simulation. One of her current projects involves developing methods and tools for joint optimization of signal control and vehicle movement to improve mobility by exploiting the capabilities of connected and automated vehicles.
She is also leading a collaboration with transportation agencies in Florida to develop I-STREET, a real-world testbed located on UF's campus and the surrounding highway network. I-STREET's first project will be the deployment of an autonomous bus. Additionally, Dr. Elefteriadou is the principal investigator of the Regional University Transportation Center for Region 4 (Southeast Transportation Research Innovation Development and Education, or STRIDE). STRIDE involves nine other universities in the southeast and focuses on congestion mitigation.
At TRB, Dr. Elefteriadou is a member of the Operations and Preservation Group and served as past chair of the Highway Capacity and Quality of Service Standing Committee.
