TRB Volunteer Profile: Dr. Delmar Salomon
Dr. Delmar Salomon, owner and president of Pavement Preservation Systems LLC, is a featured volunteer in the
TR News. Dr. Salomon's research focuses on technology transfer, emulsified and modified asphalt, pavement preservation, and new business development in the asphalt field. He is also interested in promoting processes that improve asphalt materials for long-lasting pavements. Dr. Salomon has had three consensus standards with ASTM International, and two recently approved standards with AASHTO. One of these standards is on the use of portable infrared spectroscopy to monitor asphalt materials during construction. He is also the Dr. David R. Jones IV Scholarship Coordinator for the Association of Modified Asphalt Producers.
He has also worked in Canada as the Research and Development Manager for Polymer Fuel Cells at Ballard Advanced Materials, where he identified low-cost polymers to convert to conducting membranes for fuel cells. Dr. Salomon has also been the project coordinator for the Heavy Oil Sands Research Program at the University of Calgary in Canada, and has worked in Mexico as Manager of Product Development for Industrias Negromex. There, he developed two new industrial products and worked on pilot projects that resulted in two new commercial products.
At TRB, Dr. Salomon served as past chair of the Standing Committee on Asphalt Binders and was a member of the standing committees on Sealants and Fillers for Joints and Cracks, and Pavement Preservation.
