THE REPORT, “DEVELOPMENT OF CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE GAPS AND RESEARCH EFFORTS”, COVERS:

RUN-OFF-THE-ROAD ACCIDENTS;
INTERSECTION SAFETY;
HUMAN FACTORS;
WORK ZONE SAFETY; AND
ADVANCED CROSS CUTTING RESEARCH

WE REQUEST INTERESTED PARTIES TO REVIEW AND COMMENT ON THE ENTIRE DOCUMENT OR ANY OF THE INDIVIDUAL CHAPTERS.

WE ARE PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN FEEDBACK ON ADDITIONAL RESEARCH GAPS THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IN THE PAPERS. WE WOULD BE PLEASED TO RECEIVE COMMENTS ON ANY OTHER ASPECT OF THE WHITE PAPERS.

A MORE DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE WHITE PAPERS AND THIS REVIEW REQUEST FOLLOWS:

Purpose:

This report presents a set of five independent white papers on topics selected by the National Highway R&T Partnership, plus an introductory chapter that gives background information, and a final chapter that compares results across the white papers. All papers fall within the general topic of Highway Infrastructure and Operations, one of eight safety research themes in the National Highway Safety Research Agenda. Sets of potential research projects were produced for each of the following topics: run-off-road accidents, intersection safety, human factors, work zone safety, and advanced projects that cut across the preceding topics. Each potential project was rated for likelihood of success and estimates were given for cost and duration. Comments on the papers were provided by reviewers selected by the R&T Partnership Steering Committee. The authors of the white papers responded to these comments.

Type of review:

The overall report is 159 pages. Reviewers are welcome to comment all or only parts of the report. For example, if a reviewer has expertise in intersection safety, he/she may want to focus their review just on the white paper pertaining to intersection safety. We are asking for reviewers to address this primary question: For the following topics in the report, run-off-road accidents, intersection safety, human factors, work zone safety, and advanced projects, what do you feel are the primary research needs that need to be addressed? The follow-up question is: Why do you feel these are the primary research needs? Reviewers are free to provide comments on any aspect of the report.
