European Commission Action Plan on Energy Efficiency
The European Commission has released a plan designed to reduce energy consumption in Europe by 20% by 2020. The Action Plan on Energy Efficiency, which will be implemented over the next six years, was developed in response to a call for a realistic energy efficiency strategy from heads of state and government at the Spring European Council meeting. The plan includes a set of measures designed to improve energy efficiency in the area of transport. According to a press release, “the plan recognizes that energy savings can be achieved, in particular, by ensuring fuel efficiency of cars, developing markets for cleaner vehicles, ensuring proper tire pressure, and by improving the efficiency of urban, rail, maritime, and aviation transport systems.” The plan addresses the behavior of transportation users.
