Advancing the Science of Climate Change
The Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate, part of the National Academies' Division on Earth and Life Studies (DELS), has released a report that explores what the scientific community has learned about climate change and its interactions with human and natural systems in 12 areas of interest to decision makers. The committee that developed the report identifies advances needed to improve the effectiveness of actions taken to respond to climate change—including actions to limit its magnitude and adapt to its impacts—as well as understanding of the causes, mechanisms, and consequences of climate change.
The report is part of the most comprehensive study of climate change to date, emphasizing why the United State should act now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop a national strategy to adapt to the inevitable impacts of climate change. The reports are part of a congressionally requested suite of five studies known as
America's Climate Choices.
DELS, like TRB, is a division of the National Academies, which include the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council.
