Framework for Urban Metabolism and Life Cycle Assessment of Hardscape
The National Center for Sustainable Transportation at the University of California at Davis has released a report that develops an approach to measure the efficiency of urban hardscape in large urbanized areas. Urban hardscapes are human-altered surfaces in urban areas, not including alterations for horticulture. They can impact air emissions, truck traffic, and the potential for flooding. This report seeks to improve urban hardscapes’ effects on global warming, safety, and quality of life.
