Review of FAA Airport Sponsors’ Grandfathered Payments
The U.S. Department of Transportation Office of the Inspector General has released a report that assesses the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s oversight of grandfathered sponsors’ compliance with federal law related to airport revenue payments. Federal law does allow airport sponsors that have historically used revenues for non-airport purposes—referred to as grandfathered sponsors—to continue to use revenues for these purposes. However, there is a limited amount of federal funds available for airport improvements.
