The U.S. Federal Highway Administration has released a report that explores the effects of rectangular rapid-flashing beacons (RRFB) at uncontrolled marked crosswalks. The RRFB device is a pedestrian-activated beacon system located at the roadside below side-mounted pedestrian crosswalk signs.
