The Relationship Between Vehicle Axle Loadings and Pavement Wear on Local Roads
The New Zealand Transport Agency has released a report that provides evidence on the wear characteristics of New Zealand local road pavements from accelerated pavement loading studies at an indoor testing facility. The research measures the number of wheel loads to fail a rutting pavement; validates the accelerated pavement testing with field data; determines how to take account of the environmental component of pavement wear in terms of rutting; and develops a methodology/relationship for determining the damage law exponent used to calculate the component of road user charges relating to pavement rutting for actual roads.
