Sensing for HOV/HOT Lanes Enforcement
The Minnesota Department of Transportation has released a report that evaluates the capability of an image sensor device that automates detection of in-vehicle occupants. This device aims to flag law enforcement of high-occupancy vehicle/high occupancy toll (HOV/HOT) lane violators. Since HOV/HOT lanes have become more common in urban areas, methods to discourage cheating of the road use have been needed as more lanes are being added.
