Paratransit: 1979
TRB Special Report 186: Paratransit-1979 are the proceedings of a conference that synthesized and evaluated the significant paratransit services across the U.S. and Canada, and assessed their relevance for other communities.
The Conference was organized to provide results that would help the Urban Mass Transportation Administration (UMTA) to understand the problems and potentials of praratransit. Comprehensive resource papers were presented on six major issues: labor protections and labor standards; appropriate institutional framework for paratransit development; evaluation and measurement of service effectiveness; competitive opportunities in paratransit; coordination of social-service-agency transportation; and technology requirements. Workshop reports and plenary session transcripts on these major issues are also presented. Introductory articles briefly discuss current conditions, briefly review the resource papers, and present some considerations on the changing environment of paratransit.
