New IDEAs for Highways: Annual Progress Report - January 2006
TRB’s Innovations Deserving Exploratory Analysis (IDEA) program has released the 2006 issue of its New IDEAs for Highways: Annual Progress Report, which summarizes recent investigations conducted under the NCHRP Highway IDEA program. The Federal Transit Administration, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Federal Railroad Administration, and the member states of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) sponsor four IDEA programs that promote innovation beyond the scope of traditional research programs in the areas of transit, safety, high-speed rail, and highways.
A project of the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), the NCHRP Highway IDEA program is designed to help foster innovative concepts for highway design and construction, materials, operations, maintenance, and other areas of highway systems. The program is jointly sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and the member states of the AASHTO.
