Data Systems and Travel Survey Methods 2009

TRB’s Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, No. 2121 includes 17 papers that explore a geographic information system framework for stormwater drainage asset management; infrastructure life-cycle costing; innovative components for asset management implementation; green performance metrics for a transportation data archive; urban network travel time estimation with midlink sources and sinks; analyzing multimodal public transport journeys with smart card data; and data simulation using common distributional assumptions of travel characteristics. This issue of the TRR also examines seasonal factors of similarity-based urban traffic; video-based vehicle detection and tracking; using transit vehicles to measure freeway traffic conditions; real-time estimation of arterial travel times; creating archived transportation data user services and an advanced traveler information system; real-time tracking of large trucks with license plate recognition and text-mining; commodity-specific disaggregation of freight data to county level; detecting differential drift in weigh-in-motion sensors; intercity person trip tables from massive cell phone data; and combining state route and local road linear referencing system information.
