Renewal

The research objective of SHRP 2 highway renewal is to achieve renewal that is performed rapidly, causes minimum disruption, and produces long-lived facilities. A related objective is to achieve such renewal not just on isolated, high-profile projects, but consistently throughout the nation’s highway system. Projects that comprise the SHRP 2 Renewal Research Plan SHRP 2 Renewal Research Plan are shown in the Projects database, which is organized by project number. Click the project number for a description of the expected project activity.

SHRP 2 Project Brief: Railroad-DOT Institutional Mitigation Strategies
Posted January 27, 2010

TRB’s second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2) has released a project brief that summarizes SHRP 2 Renewal project R16, which explored strategies, arrangements, techniques, and processes designed to help facilitate beneficial relationships between railroads and public agencies. The final report of the project includes eight model agreements that can be modified to meet the legal requirements and accepted contracting processes of individual agencies and railroads.

Request for Demonstration Project Sites

Posted January 20, 2010

SHRP 2 Project R06C: Using Infrared (IR) and High-Speed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for Uniformity Measurements on New Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Layers will conduct three demonstration projects in 2010.  The project is seeking sites from AASHTO Regions 1, 2, and 3 to demonstrate these technologies.  This demonstration includes an infrared temperature survey during placement of the HMA, and a radar survey after completion of finish rolling, to locate potentially segregated areas.  Candidate projects should be surface mixes.  A minimum of 10 cores will be needed to study the relationship between the nondestructive test data and the HMA density, asphalt content, and gradation. To nominate a site, please complete this form and e-mail it to Stephen Sebesta at the Texas Transportation Institute.
