TRB Webinar: Airport Legal Research Digests

TRB conducted a webinar on September 12, 2013 that featured research conducted by TRB’s Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) on safety management systems, safety risk management, and wildlife management issues at airports. View the recorded webinar.

This webinar will highlight findings from the following ACRP reports that address these issues:

Dave Bannard, Foley and Lardner LLP, will present LRD 19: Legal Issues Related to Developing Safety Management Systems. Dave will discuss the basics of safety management systems (SMS), efforts to implement SMS at airports, and ways that SMS could lead to increased liability for airports.

Douglas Rillstone, Broad and Cassel, will present LRD 20: Airport Responsibility for Wildlife Management. Douglass will discuss the wildlife management federal and state laws, airport land use compatibility considerations, and wildlife hazard assessments and management.

Moderated by: Marci Greenberger, Transportation Research Board.

The first 60 minutes of the webinar is for presentations and the final 30 minutes is reserved for audience questions.

Learning Objectives:
  • To understand the legal implications of safety management systems and safety risk management requirements.
  • To understand the legal issues of wildlife management responsibilities and wildlife management techniques for both on-airport and off-airport to eliminate or deter wildlife hazards that pose a threat to the safe operation of aircraft.
To ensure that you receive notices about upcoming webinars, please subscribe to the TRB Transportation Research E-Newsletter.

Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Credits:

TRB is offering 1.25 CLE credits for this webinar. TRB did not seek approval for the above listed workshop from the state board, so we advise that you contact your state board prior to registering for the webinar to see if credits would be accepted. Registered webinar attendees who sign in and view the entire webinar will receive a link to a certificate that they can fill out and provide to their board. Complete a certificate for each state in which you are required to file. Rules for CLE in some states require the provider to file attendance with the regulator as a service to lawyers. Please confirm jurisdictional reporting requirements with the state regulator. This certificate should be filed with the appropriate MCLE Board(s) or Commission(s) within 30 days of activity. Introductory remarks, keynote addresses, business meetings, breaks, receptions, etc., are not included in the computation of credit. TRB will retain a copy of your attendance, however TRB is not required to submit attendance to the board.
