TRB Webinar: Highway Capacity Manual 2010: New Urban Streets Methodology – Auto Mode

TRB conducted a webinar on October 22, 2013 from 2:00 p.m.- 3:30 p.m. ET that will provide an overview of the Highway Capacity Manual 2010’s (HCM 2010’s) new multimodal urban streets method as it relates to the auto mode. The HCM 2010 chapter on the new multimodal urban streets method as it relates to the auto mode focuses on methods for estimating average travel speed. The information contained in this chapter was based on research results from TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) project 3-79: Measuring and Predicting Arterial Travel Time, as well as the incorporation of significant changes to the signalized method, which are referenced in the HCM 2010’s Urban Streets chapter.

Order your copy of the HCM 2010 today. The publication of the fifth edition of the Highway Capacity Manual updates HCM 2000, and significantly enhances how engineers and planners assess the traffic and environmental effects of highway projects by:

• providing an integrated multimodal approach to the analysis and evaluation of urban streets from the points of view of automobile drivers, transit passengers, bicyclists, and pedestrians
• addressing the proper application of micro-simulation analysis and the evaluation of those results
• examining active traffic management in relation to both demand and capacity
• exploring specific tools and generalized service volume tables, to assist planners in quickly sizing future facilities

The HCM 2010 has been split into four volumes:

• Volume 1 – Concepts
• Volume 2 - Uninterrupted Flow
• Volume 3 - Interrupted Flow
• Volume 4 - Applications Guide (electronic only)

This four-volume format was developed to provide information at several levels of detail as well as to help HCM users easily apply and understand the concepts, methodologies, and potential applications presented in the manual.

Volume 4 is an electronic-only volume that registered HCM users will be able to access via the Internet. This volume includes four types of content: supplemental chapters on methodological details and emerging issues; interpretations, clarifications, and corrections; comprehensive case studies; and a technical reference library.

Professional Development Hour information:
A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDH) will be provided to Professional Engineers (PEs) who register and attend the webinar as an individual. For groups, only the person that registers and attends the session will receive a PDH certificate.
