Requests for Proposals - Design

Seeking project panel nominations for FY 2021 Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP): Nominations due February 5, 2021
February 5, 2021
TCRP is seeking panel nominations for the approved FY 2021 research projects. Descriptions are available of FY 2021 projects for which RFPs are expected to be issued.

Please nominate yourself or other candidates to serve on the expert panels of these research projects online at MyTRB. These panels will develop requests for proposals, select contractors, and review draft deliverables.

Nominations are welcome anytime before February 5, 2021.

Propose New Topics for the 2022 NCHRP Synthesis Program: Submissions due February 17
February 17, 2021
TRB's National Highway Cooperative Research Program (NCHRP) is seeking potential synthesis study topics for the 2022 NCHRP Synthesis Program. In the coming year, NCHRP will fund 18 new synthesis topics. A new Synthesis Topic Outline offers guidance in creating a topic. Topics must be submitted through the NCHRP Synthesis Topic Submission Portal by February 17, 2021.

A synthesis study documents current practice and experience for specific highway topics.  The following factors are considered in the selection process for new topics.
  • The objective of the scope of work is to document current highway practice in state departments of transportation (DOTs);
  • The synthesis documents current practice, not best practice; it is not a research project or a guidebook;
  • The topic addresses an area of practice that is widespread and of general interest to state DOTs; and
  • The topic should be timely and critical for expediting delivery, improving the quality, or lowering the cost of highway programs.
Please forward this announcement to others who may be interested. For further information, contact Jo Allen Gause at jagause@nas.edu.

RFP: Crashworthiness of Roadside Hardware on Curbed Roadways
February 18, 2021
TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has issued a request for proposals to
(1) Determine the effects of curbs on the crashworthiness of selected selected roadside safety hardware (RSH) at various speeds, geometries, and offsets from the curb
(2) Develop guidelines for the use of RSH in combination with curb
(3) Prepare the guidelines for incorporation into a future update of the AASHTO Roadside Design Guide
(4) Provide recommendations for any additional crash testing requirements that should be made to MASH on RSH installed in combination with curb
Proposals are due February 18, 2021 at 5:00 PM Eastern.

RFP: Traffic Safety Culture Research Roadmap
February 18, 2021
TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has issued a request for proposals to
(1) Identify traffic safety culture (TSC) research questions, gaps, and stakeholders
(2) Produce a prioritized TSC research roadmap with stakeholder input that includes fully developed research problem statements
(3) Develop a communication plan to disseminate the research roadmap
(4) Develop a process management plan to systematically revisit research priorities to guide research and ensure its future relevancy.

RFP: Design Guide for Rural Deviated Fixed-Route Transit Systems
February 24, 2021
TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has issued a request for proposals to produce a guidebook on how to initiate new and enhance existing rural and tribal public transportation services that improve mobility and accessibility. The guidebook should promote practices that are responsive to customers and aid transit providers in improving efficiency and effectiveness. The guidebook should also help transit providers better leverage and coordinate resources, comply with federal requirements, and adopt appropriate emerging technologies.
Proposals are due March 16, 2021 at 5:00 PM Eastern.

RFP: Design Guide and Standards for Infrastructure Resilience
February 24, 2021
TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has issued a request for proposals to
(1) briefly summarize how extreme weather events, long-term climate changes, and climate resilience impact transportation project delivery, infrastructure life-cycles, and asset management practices
(2) identify current and projected future climate variables to be considered during the design of transportation projects to increase resilience
(3) develop recommendations for updating design processes that include consideration of extreme weather events and increase resilience to climate impacts
(4) develop a project delivery climate change resilience design guide.

Proposals are due February 24, 2021.

RFP: Development of the 8th Edition of AASHTO's A Policy on the Geometric Design of Highways and Streets
March 2, 2021
