TRB conducted a webinar on Thursday, July 26, 2018, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM ET that describes the inaugural Strategic War Game session at the 2018 TRB Annual Meeting. War games are fast-paced simulations involving teams that represent a market or customer, a set of competitors, and a series of other uncontrollable factors or entities. At this year’s TRB Annual Meeting, eight teams worked in an interactive environment to develop pitches for how technology, public policy, and market forces could align to achieve the greatest societal benefits. Judges from across the transportation industry evaluated the pitches based on their energy outcomes, equity, land use, and safety. Because organizers often pair the war game process with scenario planning for stronger results, the Strategic War Game session built upon the
National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Foresight 750 Series, which utilized a comprehensive scenario planning exercise.
This webinar discussed the war game’s goals, its development, and the events during the TRB Annual Meeting session. The presenters also described how attendees can participate in the next war game at the 2019 TRB Annual Meeting.
This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Strategic Management. Contact Reggie Gillum at
