TRB Webinar: Establishing a Coordinated Local Family Assistance Program for Airports
TRB conducted a webinar on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM ET that features research from the
Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP)’s
Research Report 171: Establishing a Coordinated Local Family Assistance Program for Airports.
The research provides guidance to airport personnel when assisting victims and families affected by an aviation disaster and other hazards. Airports have a vital role in assisting affected passengers, families, and friends. This is true especially if airline staff is limited and incident response “go-teams” are many hours away – or the event doesn’t involve an airline. This webinar explained airport disaster family assistance processes, timelines, facilities, roles, and responsibilities with the focus on the research report’s toolkit. The presenters discussed ready-to-use templates, exercise materials, and other resources to develop an effective family assistance program for airports of any size. This webinar also presented two case studies of airports that used the guidebook to improve their family assistance program. These case studies will also show airports at different stages of the development process.
This webinar is sponsored by the Airport Cooperative Research Program.
