TRB Webinar: Transportation Asset Management: Highlights from Beyond Pavement and Bridges Track

TRB conducted a webinar on July 18, 2012, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. ET that explored asset management techniques for safety, geotechnical, and ancillary structures; signs and sidewalks; and more. Participants must register in advance of the webinar, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees. Contact Reggie Gillum at RGillum@nas.edu for a link to the recorded webinar.

The webinar will highlight sessions conducted at the 9th National Conference on Asset Management, which took place on April 16-18, 2012, in San Diego, California. The webinar will be appropriate for anyone who did not attend the “Beyond Pavements and Bridges” track of sessions at the conference.

Presenter 1: Tim Henkel, Minnesota Department of Transportation
Title: Looking Beyond Pavement and Bridges: Perspectives on Asset Management
Tim will provide an overview of the sessions that took place during the Beyond Pavement and Bridges track and highlight some of the key themes and ideas that were discussed during the technical sessions.

Presenter 2: Scott Richrath, Colorado Department of Transportation
Title: Signs and Sidewalks
Scott will highlight the four presentations given during “Signs and Sidewalks” session.  He will summarize practices that states are using to inventory sign assets and explore approaches taken by local governments to improve sidewalks.

Presenter 3: Hyun-A Park, Spy Pond Partners
Title: Safety Assets
Hyun-A will discuss the importance of incorporating safety assets into a transportation asset management program. Her presentation will explore current state practices and summarize research activities being overseen by TRB’s second Strategic Highway Research Program Safety Focus Area.

Presenter 4: Scott Anderson, Federal Highway Administration
Title: Asset Management and Geotechnical Applications
Scott will explore geotechnical aspects of asset management from the perspectives of the U.S. Federal Highway Administration and Alaska State Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.
