TRB Webinar: Developments in Non-Traditional Stabilizers

TRB conducted a webinar on August 1, 2012, from 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. ET that examined non-traditional road dust palliatives and soil stabilizers that may be cost-effective, long-lasting, and environmentally considerate alternatives. The webinar is based on presentations given at a session titled Developments in Non-Traditional Stabilizers at the 10th International Low Volume Roads Conference held on July 26, 2011.  

Road dust palliatives and soil stabilizers such as magnesium and calcium chloride, lignosulphonate, or blends of these are examples of traditional stabilizers considered to be generic products.  Their use and performance is well accepted and understood.  An emerging non-traditional group of other, usually proprietary products may be cost-effective, long-lasting, and environmentally considerate alternatives to the traditional set.  This webinar identifies some of these products, shows how they can effectively be used, and documents their performance.  Also, to provide industry credibility, standardization of supplies and verification tests, and government procurement options, this webinar will discuss an idea to establish an industry association.

Professional Development Hour information:

A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hour (PDH) will be provided to Professional Engineers (PEs) who register and attend the webinar as an individual. For groups, only the person that registers and attends the session will receive a PDH certificate. 

Individuals registered as Florida PEs are required to email Reggie Gillum, RGillum@nas.edu, with their license number.

This webinar was developed in May 2012. TRB has met the standards and requirements of the Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP).
