Introducing an Intelligent Intersection
The Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California at Berkeley has released a report that seeks to design intelligent intersection infrastructure and evaluate its performance in terms of safety and mobility benefits. An intelligent intersection can identify when the signal phase will change, use sensor data to determine blind spots, and predict red light violations before they occur. It then broadcasts this information to anyone in the intersection with a smartphone or bluetooth device.
