Evaluation of Shared Lane Markings

The U.S. Federal Highway Administration has released a TechBrief that explores the impact of several uses of shared lane pavement markings on operational and safety measures for bicyclists and motorists. Shared lane markings are designed to help convey to motorists and bicyclists that they must share the roads on which they operate. The markings attempt to create improved conditions by clarifying where bicyclists are expected to ride and by notifying motorists to expect bicyclists on the road.
