2013 TRB 92nd Annual Meeting: Your Source for MAP-21 Implementation Information

TRB’s 92nd Annual Meeting, January 13-17, 2013, in Washington, D.C., will feature 17 sessions on the implementation of the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21). MAP-21 funds surface transportation programs at more than $105 billion for fiscal years 2013 and 2014, and it is the first long-term federal surface transportation authorization legislation enacted since 2005. The TRB Annual Meeting will include sessions on implementation of the key changes being ushered in by MAP-21, including its focus on performance management; reliance on strong data programs, and streamlined project delivery, planning, and programming reforms; and increased emphasis on management and operations, asset management, safety, and more.

TRB Webinar: 2013 TRB 92nd Annual Meeting -- How to Survive and Thrive

On November 6, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET, TRB will hold a webinar designed to help both new and returning Annual Meeting attendees get the most out of their meeting experience. The webinar will review issues related to personal planning for the meeting, including hotel reservations, airline reservations, and other basics; help attendees plan their schedules during the meeting; and explore ways attendees can optimize their Annual Meeting networking after they return home. There is no cost for this webinar--which will be repeated on December 11, 2012, and on January 8, 2013--but space is limited, so you must register in advance.

TRB Webinar: Airport Governance and Ownership

TRB will conduct a webinar on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, from 12:00 PM ET to 1:30 PM ET that will feature research conducted by TRB’s Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) on approaches to airport privatization, airport ownership and governance, and state-specific airport legislation to help airports operate in an efficient, competitive, and financially viable way. There is no fee to register for this webinar, participants must register in advance, and 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for Accredited Airport Executives (A.A.E.) who attend this webinar. The American Institute of Certified Planners has approved this webinar for 1.5 Certification Maintenance Credits.

TRB Webinar: Basics of Asphalt Modeling: Part 2

TRB will conduct a webinar on December 11, 2012, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. ET. This is the second webinar in a multi-part series that will explore the basics about the mechanical behavior of asphalt concrete. RFP: Guide Specification for the Design of Concrete Bridge Beams Prestressed with CFRP Systems

TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has issued a request for proposals to develop a proposed guide specification, in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Load and Resistance Factor Design format, for the design of concrete beams prestressed with carbon fiber reinforced polymer systems for bridge applications. Proposals are due December 18, 2012.

RFP: Transportation Asset Management Gap Analysis Tool

TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has issued a request for proposals to develop a transportation asset management (TAM) gap analysis tool for state departments of transportation and local transportation practitioners to facilitate their implementation of TAM. Proposals are due December 13, 2012.

RFP: Mapping Heavy Vehicle Noise Source Heights for Highway Noise Analysis
October 31, 2012
TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has issued a request for proposals to determine height distributions and spectral content for heavy vehicle noise sources, and to establish and begin populating a new heavy vehicle (truck and bus) noise source database for incorporation into traffic noise models. Proposals are due December 13, 2012.

RFP: Simplified Full-Depth Precast Concrete Deck Panel Systems

The National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has issued a request for proposals to develop recommended guidelines and proposed American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Load and Resistance Factor Design specification language for the design, fabrication, and construction of transverse full-depth precast concrete deck panel systems that simplify the connection between the deck panel and beam. Proposals are due December 18, 2012.

RFP: Communicating the Results of NCHRP Transportation Strategic Issues Research
October 31, 2012
The National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has issued a request for proposals to identify, synthesize, integrate, communicate, and build on the individual results of the NCHRP 20-83 series, which are examining global and domestic longer-term strategic issues with the potential to affect state departments of transportation (DOTs) in important ways in 30 to 50 years. The goal of this project is to create a master narrative for the transportation industry’s executive leadership about the implications of these research results for state departments of transportation, and develop a comprehensive, creative, and innovative communication plan. Proposals are due January 3, 2013.

Guidebook for Incorporating Sustainability into Traditional Airport Projects

TRB’s Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) Report 80: Guidebook for Incorporating Sustainability into Traditional Airport Projects describes sustainability and its potential benefits, and identifies different applications of sustainable initiatives in traditional airport construction and everyday maintenance projects. The printed version of the report includes a CD-ROM that includes an airport sustainability assessment tool that complements the guidebook and may be used to assist in identifying sustainability initiatives that might be most applicable to an airport project. Through case studies, the tool also allows users to obtain more information about specific strategies and learn about sustainability initiatives that have been implemented in other airports.

Significant Findings from Full-Scale Accelerated Pavement Testing

TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 433: Significant Findings from Full-Scale Accelerated Pavement Testing documents and summarizes significant findings from the various experimental activities associated with full-scale accelerated pavement testing (f-sAPT) programs that have taken place between 2000 and 2011. The report also identifies gaps in knowledge related to f-sAPT and where future research may be needed.

TRB Security, Emergency Management, and Infrastructure Protection Research Status Report

Since September 11, 2001, 125 security-, emergency management-, and infrastructure protection-related planning and implementation projects have been initiated through the Transportation Research Board (TRB). Ninety-two of these projects have been completed; 15 projects are in progress; and 18 projects have contracts pending or are currently in development. This report, updated monthly, provides information on about $17.5 million worth of completed and ongoing TRB security research.
