TRB Webinar: Practices for Roadway Tunnel Design, Construction, Safety and Inspection, and Rehabilitation TRB will be conducting a web briefing or “webinar” on Thursday, March 4, 2010, from 2:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. EDT that will explore research on international and domestic tunnel scans, and provide information to practitioners about practices that can be used to design and maintain safe tunnels. Participants must register at least 24 hours prior to the start of the webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees.

Measuring PM Emissions from Aircraft Auxiliary Power Units, Tires and Brakes TRB’s Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) has issued a request for proposals to design and implement a measurement campaign of particulate matter (PM) emissions from a representative set of in-service aircraft auxiliary power units as well as PM emissions associated with aircraft brake and tire wear that occurs during landing. Proposals are due March 25, 2010.

Assessing Aircraft Noise Conditions Affecting Student Learning TRB’s Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) has issued a request for proposals to identify and evaluate conditions under which aircraft noise affects student learning, and to identify and evaluate one or more alternative noise metrics that best define those conditions. Alternative Fuels as a Means to Reduce PM2.5 Emissions at Airports TRB’s Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) has issued a request for proposals to estimate the fine particulate matter (PM2.5) contribution of airports, evaluate the impact alternative fuels may have in reducing PM2.5 emissions from major contributors, and identify the opportunities and challenges that alternative fuels present in reducing airport-related PM2.5 emissions.
