The Interchange was established in 1991 for the exchange of information and the initiation of collaborative activities among the transportation and related statistical federal agencies in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Its mission is to improve the quality, relevance, and comparability of transportation data and information, focusing on data and analysis that provide information necessary for an efficient and integrated transportation system for North America. This activity also supports the President’s trilateral Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP); specifically, providing data and information for the “safer, faster and more efficient border crossings” signature transportation initiative. Data and information exchanges are vital to gain an accurate picture of trade and transportation activity between the countries of North America.
