TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 471: Evaluation of Roadside Features to Accommodate Vans, Minivans, Pickup Trucks, and 4-Wheel Drive Vehicles indicates that with few exceptions, widely used roadside safety hardware--or modified versions--will perform satisfactorily in most impacts with vehicles in the light truck subclasses.
