Joint Committee Meeting: TRB Roadside Safety Design and AASHTO Roadside Safety
Convened by Transportation Research Board, the TRB Roadside Safety Design Committee will time its
virtual meeting in close coordination with the meeting of the AASHTO Technical Committee on Roadside Safety. Sessions will be held July 12, 14, 16, 19, and 21.
Join us to discuss the implementation of and improvements to the AASHTO Manual for Assessment of Safety Hardware (MASH), recent and completed research that may support future editions of the manual, and road safety design research needs. The joint meetings enable synergy by providing a forum for the broader road safety community to present research findings that help focus discussions in the AASHTO TCRS meeting immediately following.
This joint meeting will explore ways to reduce the severity of roadway departure crashes. Issues and practices to be discussed include: emerging issues related to roadside safety, advancements in crash testing guidelines that offer potential for enhanced hardware performance through accommodation of a broader range of real-world crashes, information pertaining to in-service performance evaluation of roadside safety hardware, and design research issues. Research needed to achieve meaningful advancements in these technical areas as well as other areas of roadside safety will be identified. The meeting will be of interest to AASHTO, state DOT designers and engineers, FHWA, consultants, researchers, testing laboratories, manufacturers, and others.
The committee will hold four other events for Young Professional Networking and Subcommittees from June 29 - July 1, before the technical program begins.
