TRB conducted a webinar on September 19, 2013 from 2:00 p.m.- 3:30 p.m. ET that featured research conducted by TRB’s Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) on potential disease outbreaks associated with air travel and tools to assist with mitigating such events.

This webinar will highlight findings from the following ACRP projects that address these issues:
Hollis Stambaugh, HS Management Consulting, will present the results of ACRP
Report 5: Quarantine Facilities for Arriving Air Travelers: Identification of Planning Needs and Costs. Hollis will discuss facility issues, security considerations, and estimated costs (including operating costs) that airport operators and policymakers may consider when planning for the potential quarantine of arriving air travelers.
Andrew Tatem, University of Florida will discuss
ACRP CD 137: The Vector-Borne Disease Airport Importation Risk Tool. Andrew will present the Vector-Borne Disease Airport Importation Risk (VBD-Air) tool, a user-friendly map-based online tool for planners and decision-makers in state and local government, specifically, those who work on health risk issues.
Mark Gendreau, Lahey Clinic, will cover ACRP Report 91: Guidance Document for Infectious Disease Mitigation. Mark will discuss how to determine high-risk areas and activities conducive to human disease spread from different transmission modes at airports and on aircraft, and will identify mitigation measures to address those risks. He will also provide guidance for using the measures to develop targeted strategies to respond to disease threats.
Moderated by: Anthony Evans, International Civil Aviation Organization
The first 60 minutes of the webinar is for presentations and the final 30 minutes is reserved for audience questions.
Learning Objectives:
