TRB Webinar: New SHRP 2 Tools for Underground Utility Location, Data Collection, and Analysis
Posted February 16, 2012
SHRP 2, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), conducted a webinar on February 15, 2012, that explored new tools for underground utility location, data collection, and analysis. Four SHRP 2 research projects are developing innovative tools for detecting the location and characteristics of underground utilities and for utilizing these data. Three of these projects are approaching significant milestones and the fourth has now been completed. There is no fee to register for this webinar and no professional development hours will be provided. A recording of the webinar is available in Windows Media Player format, and slides are available as a PDF. Responses to questions and comments from the webinar are available also as a PDF.
Recorded Webinar: Everyday Solutions: ABC Standard Designs from SHRP 2
Posted January 20, 2012
TRB co-sponsored a web briefing or "webinar" on January 17, 2012, that explored a project conducted by SHRP 2 that focused on accelerated bridge construction (ABC). SHRP 2 is developing ABC products that help bridge owners upgrade their aging bridges rapidly, with minimum disruption, to last longer, and to do so consistently throughout the nation. The presentation focused on the ABC toolbox that has been developed in SHRP 2 project R04: Innovative Bridge Designs for Rapid Renewal. The toolbox includes standard plans and details for bridges that are as light, simple, and easy as possible to design, fabricate, transport, and erect. Spans range from 40 ft to 140 ft for one-piece installation, and up to 200 ft for multiple pieces to be assembled at the site. The standard plans and details for prefabricated modular abutments, piers, and superstructures were discussed. These modular sections were developed for erection with conventional equipment, including above-deck carriers and launching systems. The presentation also included a design example using these products. A recording of the webinar is available on the following page. Please direct questions about this webinar to abc@fiu.edu.
TRB Webinar: Railroad – DOT Institutional Mitigation Strategies
Posted September 7, 2011
TRB, in partnership with the American Association of State Highway and
Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, conducted a web seminar or
“webinar” on August 31, 2011, that explored a SHRP 2 report, Strategies for Improving the Project Agreement Process between Highway Agencies and Railroads.
The webinar explored model standard agreements, standard processes,
and practices that can help public highway agencies and railroads
reduce the time and cost of project reviews. Learn more about the
webinar and access the recording on the following page.
Recorded Webinar: Advancing Technologies for Working with Underground Utilities: Current SHRP 2 Research
Posted August 11, 2011
SHRP 2, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), conducted a web briefing or "webinar" on August 10, 2011, that explored four active SHRP 2 utility-related research projects: Technologies for the Storage, Retrieval, and Utilization of 3-Dimensional Utility Location Data (R01-A); Multi-Sensor Platforms for Locating Underground Utilities (R01-B); Development of Innovative Technologies for the Location of Deep Utilities (R01-C); and Identification of Utility Conflicts and Solutions (R15-B). Information on the problems addressed by the research; the research approach; the research products, including how these products can be used and when they will be available was presented. A recording of the webinar is available in Windows Media Player format, and slides are available as a PDF. Responses to questions and comments from the webinar are available also as a PDF.
Recorded TRB Webinar: Pavement Preservation for High-Traffic-Volume Roadways
Posted September 22, 2010
TRB conducted a web briefing or “webinar” on Wednesday, September 8,
2010. The webinar explored a project from SHRP 2 that developed pavement
preservation strategies for high-traffic-volume roadways and
preservation guidelines that are based on careful and complete
assessments of factors such as traffic volume, pavement condition,
environmental condition, costs, expected performance, and work zone
requirements. For more details, view a summary of this webinar. Email Reggie Gillum at RGillum@nas.edu to receive a link to the recording of this session for a fee of $89. There is no fee for employees of TRB sponsors.
