Research Activities

TRB standing committees and task forces provide opportunities for transportation researchers and practitioners to:

• Identify needed research by developing Research Needs Statements and submitting research problem statements to the Cooperative Research Programs
• Encourage new research by issuing calls for papers and defining critical issues in transportation
• Alert the transportation community of recent and ongoing research through TRB Annual Meetings, specialty conferences and workshops, committee meetings
• Share research results through sponsorship of workshops and conferences, development of newsletters, state-of-the-art reports and research pays off reports
• Review research papers for publication and TRB-sponsored award recognition
• Cosponsor special activities and provide networking opportunities with other transportation agencies and experts in the United States and other countries
• Encourage participation by young professionals entering the transportation field
• Foster the committee’s research agenda by identifying a Committee Research Coordinator (CRC)
