TRB conducted a webinar on Monday, October 31, 2016 from 2:00 to 3:30PM ET that illustrated examples of electrical resistivity methods for geophysical applications, including underground voids, karst features, bedrock, clay, groundwater, and slope stability. This webinar featured case studies from the United Kingdom, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, and the private sector.
This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Geotechnical Site Characterization.
A certificate for 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) was provided to attendees who registered and attended the webinar as an individual.Contact Reggie Gillum at RGillum@nas.edu for instructions on receiving a copy of the recorded webinar.
Here are the slides from the presentations.
Webinar Presenters
- Jonathan Chambers, British Geological Survey
- Jason Richter, Minnesota Department of Transportation
- Ted Dean, Draper Dean Associates
Moderated by: Benjamin Rivers,
U.S. Federal Highway Administration
Webinar Outline
- Introduction to electrical resistivity
- Case studies from the United Kingdom
- Case studies from Minnesota DOT
- Example applications for karst features, mine voids, and other geotechnical applications
- Question and answer session
The first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions. The Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP) categorizes this webinar activity as relating to health, safety, and welfare including core technical.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Recognize geotechnical related applications using electrical resistivity
- Understand how to use electrical resistivity to assess site variability and assist in the rapid site characterization for transportation project delivery
