TRB Webinar: Mechanistic-Empirical Design and Details for Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP)

TRB conducted a webinar on June 3, 2015, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm ET that provided a background on Mechanistic-Empirical (ME) design for Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP), as well as covered the criteria and design process utilized in the “AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design” software.

With the completion of the 2008 AASHTO ME Pavement Design Guide and the designation of the software as “AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design,” the standard for designing CRCP has undergone significant changes from that presented in the 1993 AASHTO Pavement Design Guide. For example, CRCP performance problems observed in the past, such as material durability, base erosion, steel placement and content, and construction methods have been resolved. The improved design procedure reflects modern construction practices, pavement layer materials, specifications, and best concrete pavement engineering practices.

This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committees on Portland Cement Concrete Pavement Construction, Rigid Pavement Design, and Pavement Rehabilitation.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

• Summarize the basic ME design background and criteria utilized in the “AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design” software for CRCP;
• Describe the CRCP design process using the “AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design” software when given both the main CRCP design inputs and the most sensitive design inputs and features; and
• Explain how most CRCPs may provide road users with performance levels exceeding their original design assumptions.

Individuals registered as Florida PEs are no longer required to email TRB with your license number to report your attendance. Instead, please use your certificate that TRB provides through RCEP.net as verification of your attendance to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers.
